Do you need to insulate your home, but you're looking for more information about what type of insulation to use? If so, it will help to know more about spray foam insulation so you can decide if it is right for you.

The Installation

One of the biggest differences with using spray foam insulation is going to be how it is installed. When you use fiberglass batt insulation, anyone is capable of taking strips of the material and placing it in the wall before it is sealed up. The installation process is incredibly easy, which makes it very cheap as well in terms of labor costs.

Spray foam insulation is a bit different. Not only does it require special equipment to combine the chemicals to make the spray foam, but there is a skill involved with applying it. Since the foam can expand, it is possible to apply too much spray foam and cause problems. That's why it is often recommended to have spray foam insulation installed by a professional to ensure it is done correctly.

The Energy Efficiency

Spray foam insulation is going to be much more energy-efficient than fiberglass batt insulation. If you are serious about making your home more energy-efficient and cutting down on your heating and cooling bills, you can't go wrong with using spray foam.

The Moisture Barrier

When spray foam insulation hardens, that foam is going to form a solid moisture barrier in your home. This prevents water and condensation from getting into your home by going through the insulation. If you are using spray foam insulation in your attic, know that it is going to create a solid barrier between your home and the roof of your home that cannot be penetrated by water.

The Sound Dampening

Spray foam insulation also has the added benefit of dampening the sound between rooms. This is why spray foam is sometimes used on interior walls, where you want to make a bedroom quiet when it is right next to a living space that can have people up at later hours in the evening. Spray foam can also help cut down on the noise from outside your home, which may be important if you live on a busy street.

The Price

As you can imagine, the cost of using spray foam insulation is going to be more money than the alternative insulation methods. However, you certainly get what you pay for when it comes to using this insulation material.
