The use of CBD for treating conditions such as anxiety, nausea, and insomnia is quickly becoming more widely accepted in the mainstream. As a result, there has been a virtual explosion of new CBD products introduced into the marketplace over the last several years. Perhaps the most popular of these products are CBD tinctures. If you are considering the use of one of the tinctures, there are a few facts you should know before taking your first dose. Taking a moment to review these facts will allow you to maximize your results and ensure the best possible experience.

Fact: Not all CBD tinctures include the same active ingredients

There are several different processes that are used to extract cannabinoids from marijuana plants ultimately resulting in the production of tinctures. Depending on which process is used, a tincture may include 100% CBD or it may include both THC and CBD extracts in varying strengths. Since THC is responsible for the psychedelic effects or high that is often associated with marijuana products, it is important to select a tincture that is made of 100% CBD if you do not wish to experience these effects.

Fact: Tinctures will often provide a two-stage reaction

CBD tinctures are typically administered by placing the desired dose under your tongue using a medicine dropper. The tincture is then rubbed into the tissue in your mouth using your tongue for a couple of minutes before any remaining product is swallowed.

The tincture that is successfully absorbed into the mouth will be processed by the body rather quickly resulting in fast relief from your symptoms. However, you will experience a second reaction that often occurs as long as an hour or two after the initial reaction as the remaining product is processed by the body's digestive system.

To ensure you do not consume more than is needed to obtain the results you desire, it is important to wait until after you experience this second reaction before choosing to increase your dose.

Fact: There is no one size fits all dosing for CBD tinctures

Everything from a person's weight and gender to their own personal tolerance levels can impact the tincture dose required to achieve the desired results. If you are using these products for the first time, it is best to always start with a small dose and increase it slowly until you find the dose that works best for you.
